A Senior Challenge of Note
On the 25 July, the Boskruin Centre once again played host to another grand table tennis tournament. This time it was the turn of the senior athletes to show what they were made of. With 55 participants stepping up to the challenge, the day ahead would be filled with sounds of excitement and competitive struggles.
The presence of 7 ladies added an element of surprise to the tournament. In the end, the ladies played in they own tournament and participated with the males in the male tournament.
Thanks to an effective administration contingency; and the always-on array of heaters, the tournament ran like clockwork – the Tournament Referee also had a reasonably pain free tournament.
With the participation of athletes from Nigeria, Botswana and Sedibeng, speculation was rife has to whether Osuji would be able to hold onto his Senior Crown. The final was a grand affair with Issie Badat testing Osuji to the limits. When all was said and done, Osuji stepped away the deserving champion – he defeated Issie 4 games to 3.
On the ladies front, Khanyisile defeated her fellow Tuks Sport (HPC) resident, Zodwa, 3 games to 1.
If participation numbers are anything to go by, Table Tennis is alive and growing.
