GCTTA beats the 2008 SA’s to Submission

With an entry tally of over 300 athletes, the 2008 SA Vets, Senior & Disabled Inter-regionals and Open Championships was destined to be a tournament of note. A tournament where, once again, athletes with disabilities displayed their over-the-table prowess amongst seasoned veteran and senior athletes. And the finals in all categories did not disappoint.

As for the exploits of Team GCTTA, the final results were quite satisfying: the Ladies team took gold in the Ladies Team Event, while the Men’s team reclaimed third position in the Men’s Team Event.

It was in the Open events where mixed successes were experienced by the individual members of the GCTTA contingency. Although medals were won, the path to success was a hard fought experience and to some, quite frustrating.

The proposed venue for next year’s SA Senior Championships is Bloemfontein. Lets hope that the weather will be kind, unlike Cape Town where cold and wet weather (with cutting winds) were the order of the day for the duration of the tournament.
